Usually we bring home a bulk cookie each from our weekly grocery trip, but one week these lemon-pistachio + blueberry-cornmeal donuts looked tempting. A little liberty bag like the one below worked just fine for transport home.

I could try to blame this post on the sweet teeth of my girls, but that would be silly. I'm the one with the biggest sweet tooth of all. I try to indulge only as a treat + not as an every day habit. One way I accomplish this is my leaving the large packages of sweets at the store. Avoiding packaging provides another motivation for this practice. :) Going out for an occasional sweet makes each indulgence a real treat. Usually we bring home a bulk cookie each from our weekly grocery trip, but one week these lemon-pistachio + blueberry-cornmeal donuts looked tempting. A little liberty bag like the one below worked just fine for transport home. Sour gummies are a favorite of mine, so finding this bulk candy display at Ikea was a happy surprise (we also like the chocolate covered marshmallow bears). This cloth bag worked well to hold + weigh our treats. A bandana would work too. I even received a surprised, "I've never seen this before. Good idea!" during check-out. I always hope it will inspire someone else to do the same at some point. Who says zero-waste has to be boring? I love finding new ways to avoid trash, while tasting a new treat!
Love, Jane

I don't have a sweet tooth for candy, but I love, love, love chocolate. I have to say that I do indulge every day, but I make my indulgence bulk chocolate chips, which at least keeps the waste down, even if it doesn't keep my waist down.
