I think I have finally found the makeup that I would be happy to add to my zero-waste mornings...as desired.  :) Elate Clean Cosmetics address every detail ::
-reusable green certified, fair-trade bamboo compacts that magnetically hold the cakes of color...choose from larger palettes that can hold everything in one compact or individual compacts
-cakes of eyeshadow, blush, pressed powder + highlighter come in seed paper envelopes + recyclable metal
-mascara container is recyclable...break the bamboo outer layer off + compost...recycle the plastic inner portion
-cosmetics are about 90% organic...they will chose fair-trade over organic when both can not be had
-cosmetics are vegan, cruelty free, toxin free, gluten free + made in Canada
-while the price point is not cheap, it is less than a lot of similar products
-the products are shipped in paper mailers

Most of this information is available on the website, but I asked a few questions about the recycle-ability of packaging and received a prompt + thorough response. I'm excited about sharing this one + hope it's inspiring! Zero-waste options are growing!! So exciting!!

I've been wanting to try these guys out for ages, but I can't afford to buy something at that price point if I end up hating it. Please do a follow up and let us know how you like the stuff.

I agree. I'm not sure that I will go for it either. :)

The bamboo containers are gorgeous. It's got to feel good carrying around aesthetically pleasing containers on top of using the responsibly produced makeup.

I bought the "Veiled elation" loose powder and refill last summer. While the powder box is beautiful and I'll use it for many years to come... $28 is a LOT of money for what you get. One would think the pretty bamboo box would be a major part of the expense, but no, it's $28 for the powder in a bamboo shaker box, and $23 for a 10g (!) baggie of loose powder.

The powder was too warm/yellow for me anyway.

Beautiful packaging, and they have a lot of high ideals, but I can't be a repeat customer.

Thank you so much for that feedback! It is really hard to picture how much you get...and then if it's not the right color...ouch! They do offer samples of powder, but with shipping + all it's still not cheap. I think the last "zero-waste" makeup I saw was Kjaer Weis which I thought ridiculous at $68 for foundation...so in comparison this seemed on the cheaper side. Ha, perspective (because I think the last time I came across Elate I just ruled it out as too expensive)!

Thank you so much for your voice of reason + perspective!! :)

This brand and others may be absolutely 100% right for some people, but makeup's such a gamble at any price point --- if the shade or texture is even slightly wrong, the makeup may be useless to the person who bought it.

Have you heard of "anchoring bias"? Kjaer Weis makes a lot of things seem cheap, and that can be dangerous!

Once again, the Elate powder box IS very pretty, and I'm sure it'll last me for ages. It does have a plastic sifter inside, in case that's a pro/con for anyone.

I don't remember coming across the term "anchoring bias", but I think I just presented a textbook case! :) Such food for thought! Thank you for your kind + honest words!!
