i haven't exactly been applying the one in one out rule...not on a piece by piece basis anyway. items that are released are not necessarily replaced. in some cases i shift silhouette preferences, so it's nice to be able to shift pieces that i want to wear as time moves forward. for example, i decided to let my black, thrifted eileen fisher dress go after having it in april's rotation. i haven't been feeling like wearing black as much in the summer, and i haven't been wearing this dress much in the cooler weather.
while considering replacing the dress, i combed through my pinterest board and other inspiring sites and realized that i don't really want to wear dresses daily this summer. i am in love with jumpsuits and the freedom those lightweight pant legs bring. :) a jumpsuit can be dressed up in the same way that a casual dress can. and then i found this (plus a sale)...made by hand in my home state of michigan. now i just have to wait for it to be made... and to arrive. i can't wait!
also on my list of things to look for this season are 1-2 tops and possibly a pair of shorts. i like the idea of getting or making new things, but the process of finding the "perfect" piece is daunting. there is so much to consider...thrifted, handmade, fair manufacturing, decreased waste, natural materials, fit, comfort, style, cost, necessity. all of these are decisions of privilege to be sure, so i'm grateful to be able to struggle with them.
how are things shaping up in your closet?
love,
jane
