testimony

Is it vain that I want my life to look different? I think I really want my life to feel different to me. I want to be able to see my values by looking at my home...pulling back the curtain on my closet...opening my fridge...looking through my date book or checking account. I want all of those things to bear testimony to my inner life. I want those things to reflect beauty and light. I want them to reveal a devotion to something decidedly other than consumerism + worldly care. Love and acceptance and inclusion evident.

Nice insight. Your living room looks airy and serene. Peaceful.

In our case, our home looks like all the people who have passed through. A hand painted bird house, a gift from a young friend, is sitting on a nearby table. I know next to nothing about birds, but the birdhouse is pretty. There are handrails in certain places in the house, leftovers from a previous owner with mobility problems. And so forth.

Right now I'm focused on making my spending bear testimony to who I am . . . how I spend my money and my time. I'm working on that time thing especially because I don't have it quite figured out yet!

Our house definitely has the stamp of the people who have lived here as well...I didn't get to make the decision about the scrolly trim on the door or the color of the laminate on the floor. I think the things that we add (and also what we don't) have a voice too. Money + time also speak loudly about our values + priorities! Have fun with it! :)
