I love to sew. Actually, I think what I love most is the dreaming + scheming about sewing...the imagining of shapes + fabric + drape + structure. I love the (theoretical) ability to create pieces just the way I want them to be (access to just the right fabrics can be an issue). Actual need can be an issue as well.

The zero-waste mentality can be quite a barrier to creation for me. I don't always "need" + sometimes things don't turn out.

Lately, I've been feeling like my creativity needs some room to breathe. I enjoy the challenge of sewing...the tangible results. So I'm creating...with mixed results. And at this very moment in time, I'm trying not to feel too bad about it. Each "not-quite-right" offers the opportunity for more creativity.  :)

Love,
Jane

I love your round-up of sewing patterns! I just organized all my patterns and fabric in the hopes that it will encourage me to make some garments. One of them is the Tessuti Bondi dress you have above! I've been changing size a lot in recent years though (two babies + breastfeeding) and I'm not sure where my size will end up. I hate spending so much time on something and find it ill-fitting! I recently made a Merchant and Mills bantam vest and found it had a lot of gaping in the armholes (even though I staystitched). I'm not sure whether to bind the armholes or try to take it in first. Did you have any issues like this with yours?

Hello Carly! I love hearing about your plans + projects! I hear you on the size shifts + disappointing finishes! I think the Bondi dress could be quite flattering, because the waist + hip areas would be very forgiving fit-wise...while the top would be a bit more fitted. By looking at the pattern photos of the M+M Bantam, I concluded that it was designed to be quite loose under the arms. This removes the need for darts (which I appreciate) + offers a breezy, non-restricting fit. My favorite version is made with lightweight voile. The lightweight fabric is breezy + offers a bit of drape. If a more fitted look is desired, I believe taking the sides in + adding darts would help. Hope all your efforts pay off!! :)

So much inspiration and so many new-to-me sites. Love that Jazz and aime comme marie especially. Phew. Don't need them either... but tempting regardless!
