considering :: zero-waste quilted coat

Materials :: This treasured little stack of block print, batik, ikat, hand-dyed indigo fabric has been used for a few projects before. It mostly consists of leftovers from other sewing projects, but there are also scraps from a holely tea towel + a beloved top. I'm wondering if there might be just enough here to be pieced together into a scrappy quilted coat.

Inspiration :: This type of lovingly, pieced together, cozy coat stops me in my tracks each time I come across one. A statement piece for sure...each one of these beauties tells a story of fiber + stitches.

Pattern :: I bought the Sapporo coat pattern as soon as it came out, + I think that it could be a great shape for this project. The fact that I probably have almost everything to make this idea come together already (from fabric to thread to organic cotton batting) offers appeal...as does the dropping temperatures.  :) I would need quite a lot of pieced together yardage for this version, so I'm still debating...but the pattern is cut + I'm itching for a project...

Love,

Where can I find the Sapporo pattern? This looks like what I would wear. Love it!
Thank you for your info.

Hello Nancy! The Sapporo coat is a great shape! You can click on the link in this post (in blue) that will take you to the Papercut Pattern website...where you can purchase either a paper or PDF pattern. I'm not sure what country you are shopping from, but you might also find a paper pattern closer to home via Etsy (search Sapporo pattern) or in an independent, local fabric shop. Happy sewing! :)

Can you buy these jackets or only the pattern? Thanks

Since this post isn't recent, the coats are probably sold out...but feel free to click the links for sources. :)

Do you do the sashiko stitching before or after the jacket is constructed? Thank you

When I made mine: https://www.fairdare.org/blog/zero-waste-sewing-jacket ...I did the quilting stitches on each piece (sleeve, fronts + back) before sewing them together. :)

The photos with the short jacket where you (or someone) is wearing sunglasses--is that the Sapporo?
