a "new" bathroom

simple, white and clean
there has been a recent theme of repairs around here…so i thought i'd share one more…our bathroom.  we've just finishing up a couple weeks worth of work on the bathroom in our bedroom (it seems a bit too humble to call a master bathroom).  :)  i love looking at beautiful homes in magazines and online, but somehow this seems a bit weird for me to share.  our bathroom was just fine before.  it had running water and a flushing toilet.  the shower ran warm and cool…and even hot or cold.  the handle was broken off the sink, so it only ran cold water…and there was a crack in the bottom of the shower, but i still had a hard time coming around to the idea of spending all that money on it.

our "new" bathroom is simple, white, clean and functional…just the way we wanted it.  the sink even runs warm water now.  :)  we chose an onyx shower for its durability and appreciate the fact that it was made in our home state.  it will be simpler to keep clean than tile, since it has no grout.  i plan to spray the walls with vinegar + water each day to keep mildew and mold at bay.  the shower head is supposed to be water saving, so we appreciate that in addition to trying to take short showers.

before, obviously :)

we tried to support local small business as much as possible for parts and flooring.  i wanted small, white, hexagon tile and found it at a local remnant tile place.  it turned out, however, that it was not what we needed.  a last minute trip to home depot to see what was in stock was all i could manage in order to keep the project on schedule.  we painted the walls and freshly scraped ceiling with low VOC paint one night in the middle of it all.  an ikea sink, cabinet, and faucet were a simple and cost effective choice.  we reused our toilet and mirror.  the guy who did all the work is a friend and it felt good to support his business while also being able to trust him.

i'm going to hang a plant above the toilet and hope to find a couple thinner waffle weave and/or linen towels, and then it's done!  we really like it!

what are your spring projects?

love,
jane
