what do you eat for lunch? this is often a struggle for me, so i'd love to hear what you love…extra points for quick + easy. :)

as usual, one of my favorite ways to eat the fruits of the seasons is in my morning yogurt and granola. this way is mighty good as well! sprouted bagel + goat cheese + nectarines + honey + strawberries = amazing quick lunch

one of my best friends is having a baby boy this week. she's one of those friends who's stuck by me through all our ups and downs…and there have been a lot of them! we have a connection dating back to the days we rode our ten-speeds to each other's houses in eighth grade. i wanted to give her something to welcome her bundle of joy, but money isn't exactly flowing around here right now. i decided to see if i could make something out of what i have. fabric for boys is in short supply around a house full of girls, but i thought that maybe i could get away with a color scheme of red, white, and blue with a little tan and black thrown in. i pieced the top as a wonky log cabin inspired by denyse schmidt. just to be clear...i like imperfection as i think it is artistic…so this was never meant to be any display of perfection. :) i finished the quilt top weeks ago. i wasn't sure it was boyish enough, and i thought i'd have to buy batting. when i heard the arrival was imminent, i started wondering if there was something else i could buy for a gift. everything i looked at just didn't fitting my budget, so i returned to the quilt. well, the above picture shows that i was even able to piece together batting! does anyone else do this? i'm sure it's not the proper thing to do, but it worked for me! :) a pieced back (i'd been saving those elephants for something special!) and a pieced binding finished it off. it's a bit busy, but overall i like how it turned out…and i love that puckery goodness that comes from the dryer! hopefully it will get lots of use around the house, in the stroller or carseat. i feel like i'm sending a little hug to the new bug and his amazing tribe! he'll be big by the time i get to meet him, but i'm so happy to welcome him to the world!
