i bought three different dresses to choose from, none of which had traceable fair origins. i bought these shoes, which are adorable and fair. they felt a bit stiff…and i wasn't sure they were going to get enough everyday wear in my wardrobe. (sad, because they are so cute!) i knew i needed to be dressed appropriately for this wedding, but none of this buying felt right…so i returned all of it.
i took out this wiksten + liberty combination tank top from the summer and decided to make it into a dress. i'd previously bought a bit of extra fabric in order to make it into a dress with a gathered skirt. the swingy-ness of the top, however, didn't make the gathered skirt a good option in reality. so i just extended it's length and it turned out just right. i left off pockets in order to keep it a bit more formal for now, but next spring i think i will add some pockets.
i didn't want to buy new fancier shoes that would just sit in my closet, so i wore my vintage flats and danced the night away. i felt appropriate enough for the wedding, but i feel great now that it is over and i don't have superfluous pieces to add to my simple wardrobe.
love,
jane
