noticing julia's pajamas getting a little snug sent me wondering what i could do to get her through the end of the summer without buying anything. i've been sorting my fabric stash…selling some pieces and trying to use the smaller pieces up. i started with two pieces (left over from a mother's day gift) that could be put together for the front. the back took some creative piecing, but everything came together just right. nothing was left over…nothing wasted. it was a lot of fun to see this creation come together as if it was meant to be. there was no measuring fit as i was making. there was only one size it could be, so if it fit…great. if it didn't…it would be donated as a finished garment more valuable that way than in pieces. with a bit taken in at the sides, it fits just right and she's worn it every night since! the large pieces of fabric left over from other projects reminds me that there can be a lot of waste in fashion production. another reason for less. and maybe another point for handmade. we can make pajamas out of leftovers!
love, jane
